In the whirlwind world of live music, there’s a rhythm most fans never see — the long drives, the cold parking lots, the quick gas station dinners. Behind every unforgettable set is a band living out of a van, scraping together what they can to keep the show on the road. That’s where Meals For Music comes in.
Launched in 2023 by Connecticut-based music fan and home cook Carolyn Miller, Meals For Music is a grassroots initiative built on two essential truths: food is love, and live music matters. What started as a response to the isolation of the COVID-19 pandemic has since grown into a small but mighty movement to support touring artists with warm, nourishing meals — prepared with care and served with genuine gratitude.
Carolyn’s passion for live music started young. A childhood memory of seeing Natalie Merchant live lit a spark, but it wasn’t until the silence of 2020 that she realized just how deeply live shows had shaped her life. As she streamed concerts from home, she began to hear artists talk candidly about the unseen toll of life on the road — and she listened. One thing stood out: the lack of healthy, affordable food options for emerging artists grinding through DIY tours.
Instead of just missing shows, she took action.
Meals For Music now connects local home cooks and volunteers with touring bands passing through the region, offering everything from homemade lasagnas to packed lunches and hot breakfasts — always with a side of encouragement. It’s a reminder that even in the grittiest corners of the underground scene, there’s room for hospitality.
It’s not a nonprofit, and it’s not a brand. It’s a love letter. One that says: We see you. We appreciate you. And we’ve got dinner covered.
You can find Meals For Music at local venues, handing off meals, cheering in the front row, or quietly delivering baked goods backstage. And this year, they’ll be a part of Shoreline Summer Fest, showing up once again for the community they love.
Music feeds the soul. Meals For Music makes sure someone feeds the artist.
